a BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS MADE A DONATION AND SUPPORTED THE 3 CHARITIES!
On 10th September 2016 I completed the Yorkshire 2 Peaks Challenge to raise equal funds for:
hArt (Hampshire Art for Recreation & Therapy)
The British Heart Foundation
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
My brother, Robert Johns, on 13/03/2016 received a heart transplant. Over the years my brother fought his heart problems and continued to work full time at his business and in addition enjoyed entertaining as a local singer and guitarist.
On 18/11/2015, My brother was taken seriously ill and was told he would need a heart transplant operation. He was taken to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital on 13/02/2016 and immediately placed at the top of the heart transplant list. My brother was only on the waiting list for 4 weeks before a suitable heart was donated. He was up and out of bed within days after the operation and home within 3 weeks! It has been a joy to spend precious, valuable time with my brother recently and his attitude and humour have been inspirational throughout this whole experience. Sadly however, my brother passed away peacefully in his sleep on Mon 6/06/2016.
He received absolutely first class quality care from all the staff at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital from Dr.Lim, the Transplant Team and all the nurses and staff who have taken care of my brother. Previous funds raised for the British Heart Foundation is how my brother has been the fortunate recipient of the incredible knowledge and skill of the medical team. This enabled him and all the members of our family to enjoy the precious time he had left and we are very grateful.
I am a great believer in art and music therapy for overcoming the effect of trauma. My brother was a musician and appreciated the value and work of hArt charity.
