Historic Coventry Trust

Historic Coventry Trust has a bold mission to act as the champion of heritage at risk in Coventry

Our aims are:

To acquire, restore, reuse and regenerate Coventry’s heritage buildings for the benefit of the public;
To ensure a sustainable future for each building as part of a portfolio approach enabling cross-subsidy;
To be a safe haven for the city’s heritage in perpetuity;
To be an active partner in the city’s regeneration using heritage as an economic driver.

Born out of community action to save the Charterhouse (Coventry's 14th-century former Carthusian Monastery) Historic Coventry Trust signed a ground-breaking agreement with Coventry City Council to take over 22 of the city's important historic buildings. We are raising the money to conserve, reuse and reopen these cherished sites with an ambitious programme of £20.3M of work to complete by City of Culture in 2021.

The Charterhouse, founded by Richard II and containing medieval and Elizabethan wall paintings of outstanding national importance, forms the centrepiece of the Trust's major project - the creation of a new 70-acre Heritage Park on the edge of the city centre.

Why the community needs us
From regenerating one of Coventry's high streets to restoring and re-opening Drapers Hall as a new music venue, we are bringing Coventry's heritage back to life. Thanks to all the generous donations from supporters these sites will be saved for the future and will host exciting programmes of events and activities over the coming years.

Our impact on the community
In 2019 we welcomed 687 visitors to Heritage Open Day events, reached over 150,000 on social media, submitted 7 planning applications, and took on our first full-time members of staff.
