The Captain Tom 100 Challenge

On 6 April 2020, Captain Tom Moore raised an astounding £38.9 million for the NHS Covid-19 appeal by walking 100 laps around his garden. To honour him and his incredible achievements throughout his lifetime, the Captain Tom 100 is taking place on the weekend of 30th April 2021 (which marks what would have been his 101st birthday).

Everyone is invited (all charities, fundraisers, nans, uncles, granddaughters’ dogs etc) to take on a challenge around the number 100 anytime and anywhere across Captain Tom’s birthday weekend (30th April – 3rd May). It’s that simple, all you need to do is:

  1. Think of what your 100 challenge is going to be. This could be anything from walking 100 metres, telling 100 jokes, doing 100 push ups, baking 100 cupcakes, climbing 100 steps, writing 100 poems, singing for 100 minutes. There are no rules! (Other than Government Guidelines, of course). If you need some inspiration, check out our blog post here.

  2. Set up your fundraising page on Localgiving here for whichever charity you would like to fundraise for: Be sure to include 'Captain Tom 100' in your fundraiser title so we know to include you in the challenge.

  3. Promote your fundraising page on social media tagging @Localgiving and using the #CaptainTom100 hashtag.

  4. Participate in your 100 challenge anytime anywhere between 30th April – 3rd May. Feel free to share images, videos and updates on your fundraising pages and social media – we would love to see them!

Localgiving will be including an additional £100 prize for the fundraiser with the highest number of unique donors, which will go directly to the selected charity so make sure to get your fundraising kickstarted ASAP and inform as many supporters as you can to donate to your page! You will be able to see on the leaderboard below which fundraisers currently have the highest number of unique donors.

If you’re a charitable organisation and want to know how to get fundraisers and participants involved to support your charity, check out our blog post here with some helpful tips and advice. Alternatively, if you aren’t yet registered with Localgiving and would like to join and participate, you can do so here.
