Swansea MAD

Swansea Music Art Digital (MAD) is a grassroots, anti-poverty, anti-racist, pro-equality, inclusive youth and community charity delivering a variety of projects in South Wales. Driven by the advancement of social justice and equity, they work to deliver results for people and communities who are marginalised by systemic oppression and in turn to dismantle structures which support discrimination.

Founded in 2009 by a group of local artists and musicians in Swansea with a music studio, with an aim of helping young bands to access free studio space and instruments, record demos and have an avenue into the music business.

“Being a member of Localgiving supports us to raise valuable donations for our work with young people and communities in Wales. We have also benefited from grants from the Western Power Distribution Community Matters Fund and webinars facilitated by Localgiving, providing useful information, guidance, and opportunities about fundraising. Thank you Localgiving for your support!” - Rachel Benson, Head of Fundraising and Sustainability, Swansea MAD.

Since then, their offering has grown significantly, with recent projects have included a series of Carers Liaison Forums the teaching of digital skills, help with smart energy meters, arts projects, helping older people back into work, a collection of local oral histories and more.

Located in an area of high deprivation, activities at Swansea MAD (@SwanseaMAD) take place for the prevention of poverty, advancement of social justice and equity; addressing barriers which communities tell us they face. The team seek to sustain and grow the organisation’s impact, by continuing to develop inclusive safe spaces for people to access advocacy, creative arts, education, digital access, employability support, training, campaigning activities and projects to bring fairness and belonging and to influence change for the better.

It's a fantastic organisation, with specific local goals and activities, placed within a wider desire to advance social justice and help those marginalised by society, so to find out more about them visit https://www.swanseamad.com/ and to donate https://localgiving.org/donation/swansea-music-art-digital
