£1m Coronavirus Fund

The Coronavirus Localgiving £1m Match Funding is now officially over! The match funding has ended and there are no funds left meaning any donations made now will not be match funded.

The match fund was a huge success and we are overwhelmed with the support that we have seen through the platform since the match fund started. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our amazing charities who took part and our incredibly generous donors and members of the public who had their donations doubled during this time. The funding was also kindly provided to Localgiving by the DCMS through their Community Match Challenge and is part of the Government's £750 million charity support package meaning that without them, none of this could have been made possible; so thank you so much to the DCMS for allowing us to host this brilliant match fund!

We sincerely hope that the funds raised during this match fund are able to help not-for-profit organisations massively in their responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. 2020 has been a difficult year and we only hope that this eases some of the difficulties that it has caused.

Please note that The Localgiving Grants Team will be in touch with further information about the next steps to receive your grant. We may require further information from you and your donors, so please respond to any queries we have quickly.

The final results will be being announced shortly.

The match fund campaign will run between 10:00 on 27th October 2020 and will end when the funds run out. If the fund does not run out, the campaign will end at 12:00 on 9th November 2020.

To apply to be part of the campaign, you need to be a Localgiving member with an active membership. The application to access a grant through the fund is available via your Localgiving charity account and should take around 15 minutes to complete. Your application will be reviewed by our grants team and you’ll be notified of the outcome within 72 hours.

The funding is available for projects supporting beneficiaries in England that meet one of the following themes:

  • Provide services and support for vulnerable people, for which there will be increased demand as a result of the COVID-19 crisis

  • Support people and communities who experience disproportionate challenge and difficulty as a result of the COVID-19 crisis

  • Connecting and supporting communities to work together to respond to COVID-19

During the campaign donations will secure match funding in-line with the terms of the campaign. At the end of the campaign we will finalise the payment that you are due to receive from the donations and related gift aid, minus fees. Provided this amount is higher than the match funding secured through the campaign, we will pay out all the match funding secured. If this amount is lower than the match funding secured then the match funding will be scaled down to equal the payment of donations and gift aid.

The payment will be made once we have finalised your grant agreement and you have agreed to the terms and conditions of the grant.

The terms of this campaign have been set by the funder.

Only one-time donations will be matched through the campaign. One-time donations will be matched in-line with the terms of the campaign.

  1. Between 10:00 on 27th October 2020 and 09:59 on 3rd November 2020 donations will be matched up to £75

  2. Between 10:00 on 3rd November 2020 and 12:00 on the 9th November 2020 donations will be matched up to £5,000

All one-time donations will be matched through the campaign, this includes donations to charity pages, project pages, appeal pages and fundraiser pages.

A donor can make as many donations as they wish; however, donations will only be matched up to the limits during both stages of the campaign. They can receive match funding on their donations up to £75 during the first stage of the campaign and up to an additional £5,000 during the second stage. The maximum amount of match funding a donor can access on their donations is £5,075.

All donations made through the Localgiving platform to eligible charities during the campaign will be matched in-line with the terms stated. It does not matter where a donor is based.

No. All online donations must be made by the source donor. Any donations that are suspected to be sourced by the offline collection of donors will have match funding removed.

No. There is no minimum or maximum amount that one charity can have matched. A charity can access an unlimited amount of funding through the campaign.

Localgiving does not charge a fee on the majority of donations made through the platform. However, due to the significant costs associated with securing, delivering and managing the Coronavirus Fund, donations that are made through the campaign will be subject to a 15% fee. All donations made through Localgiving are subject to a third party processing fee.

We plan to pay out the grant, which includes the online donations, gift aid and match funding by the end of November 2020.

The project that you receive the grant funding for must be delivered within 12 months; however, the funding provided by the funder is required to be spent by 31st March 2021. You will be required to complete monitoring to show this.
