'Put a Sock In It' campaign aims to help rough sleepers keep warm this Christmas. The campaign supports the charity Snowflake Trust who are based in St Leonards by encouraging people to donate new pairs of socks to help rough sleepers in Hastings this festive season. Find out more below.

Wiltshire Community Foundation is responding to increasing hardship suffered by people in Swindon. “We are hearing of increased need across the county with food banks running out of food and more and more people unable to afford to eat or heat their homes to a safe level".
Gift appeals for multiple Calderdale charities!
This Christmas will be bleakest ever for some families - meaning several Calderdale charities are running gift appeals to make sure no one is left out on December 25. Calderdale Lighthouse which supports families in need, and Focus4Hope which helps vulnerable people across Calderdale are teaming up for their appeal.
One million metres for Charlie's Beach Hut
Two former Royal Navy rugby players to take on colossal challenge riding one million metres in 50 hours in memory of a friend and former comrade ‘Sid’ Street who lost his battle to cancer. Kerry Packer and Doc Cox will be donning Lycra, mounting WattBikes raising funds for a small family-run charity based in Portsmouth.
Be More Mandy (One Community Foundation Kirklees)
Phenomenal fundraiser Mandy Taylor died last December after a 10-year battle with cancer. During her extraordinary lifetime Mandy raised more than £2 million for charity. On Wednesday September 21, on what would have been Mandy’s 54th birthday, her friends paid a loving tribute as the funds raised for the campaign set up in her memory reached almost £50,000.
New community defibrillator for Adventure Circus
A successful family fun day has helped Adventure Circus fund a new community defibrillator. The event took place at the Riverside Church in Perth and the piece of life-saving equipment will be housed at their North Muirton training base. A total of £2378 was raised, surpassing the £2k target, with the surplus funding going towards supporting their charitable aims.
Rowan runs virtual half marathon following live event postponement
Shepherd’s Bush Councillor Rowan Ree raised hundreds of pounds for local charity The Upper Room after partaking in the Richmond RUNFEST half marathon. It was postponed at the last minute following the death of The Queen. Undaunted, Rowan decided to do a ‘virtual’ half marathon tracking his progress virtually and succeeded in beating his own target time.
Fundraiser for blaze-hit businesses reaches £20k target
A Localgiving fundraiser for people affected by a major fire has smashed through its £20,000 target in just a few days. The collection was launched by Community Foundation for Calderdale after a fire tore through Burlees House and La Perla Restaurant in Hebden in Yorkshire. Folks across the county and further afield and truly rallied around to raise desperately needed funds.
Christmas Eve Box Appeal (Daffodils Dreams)
Daffodils Dreams has launched its third annual Christmas Eve box appeal, which sees donated items given to children who otherwise may not receive a gift over the festive season. “Our 2021 appeal was a huge success, but it was sad to know that there were so many children and families in need of our support."
Father and daughter duo raise money for Breakthrough
The Journal’s Tim Cowley and his daughter, Rebecca Cowley, are taking on a nine mile walk to raise money for Breakthrough, a UK charity supporting survivors of trauma and abuse. The walk took place on Saturday, 3rd September, where Tim and Rebecca walked nine miles from the Bath Recreation Ground, with pit stops, activities and refreshments along the way.
Hawarden Park CC smashes 48-hour fundraiser (The Leader)
People walked a total of 450 miles around a historic Flintshire cricket club in a fundraising effort for a new pavilion. Hawarden Park CC held its 'Big Challenge' over the weekend - which saw people walking or running continuously around the boundary between 6pm on Friday and 6pm on Sunday. The club moved from its base of more than 140 years in 2016...
Fireworks display returns (Peebles and District Round Table)
Peebles and District Round Table will bring back its annual fireworks display to Victoria Park on Saturday, November 5th. ‘A Magical Extravaganza’ will feature a fireworks display designed alongside songs from Disney films. The fireworks have been getting bigger every year.

Getting on the water for charity (Wokingham Today)
Paddle boarder Nick Judd will set off on the river Thames from Abingdon. Leaving at dawn, he hopes to reach the Eyot Centre in Henley at dusk. A Wokingham resident, he’s a paddle board instructor, and founder of Wargrave paddle board centre, Go With The Flo. The event is not a race, it’s more of an endurance test because the plan is to be on the water for 18.8 hours...
Fruit and veg costumes to support Made In Hackney
A Hackney charity is unleashing teams of runners dressed as fruits and vegetables around the borough to raise money for struggling households. The Veg Dash took place on October 15th and participants had to "dash" to ten different fruit and vegetable-themed stops, acquiring photographic evidence at each one.
Warrington woman 'braves shave' for JUMP Children's Charity
Liz Cowan, from Appleton, fundraised for JUMP Children's Charity by completing a sponsored hair shave in Stockton Heath. The event took place at the end of July, but Liz's fundraising page is still open - and she's completely smashed her target. Initially, Liz set out to raise £350, but her fundraiser for JUMP is now sitting at £1,995.
Skydive raises more than £10,800 for Cancer Support (Lyme Online)
On a recent sunny Saturday, 10 people completed a 15,000ft skydive at Dunkeswell Airfield, near Honiton, to raise money for local charity Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support. Those who jumped out of the plane included headteacher of The Woodroffe School in Lyme Regis, a septuagenarian, students, mums and those jumping in memory of loved ones...
Sleepout for homeless charity (Calderdale SmartMove)
Halifax’s Piece Hall was filled with sleeping bags on Saturday as hundreds slept out for a night for Calderdale SmartMove. The event saw people braving plummeting temperatures to bed down in the historic venue to raise money and awareness for the charity which helps some of the borough’s most vulnerable. "I was so incredibly cold that I gave up."
Golf Day helps raise £10,000+ for Popham Kidney Support
Golfers from across south Wales came together at Clyne Golf Club to compete and raise funds for Swansea-based kidney charity Popham Kidney Support. The competition raised an impressive £10,020.72, which will contribute to the effort the charity is making to raise £130,000 for the refurbishment of the Children’s Kidney Centre Outpatient Department in Cardiff.

Brother and sister complete 70-mile walk for mum (Your Space)
Andrew Edwards and his sister, Melanie who sadly lost their mother Hazel to Covid have completed a 70 mile fundraising walk. Hazel had dedicated her life to raising awareness and campaigning on autism. So far, they have raised nearly £6,000 for Your Space in Wrexham, a charity that supports children and those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families.
