About the appeal

We know that overcoming homelessness often means more than a roof over your head. That’s why Emmaus supports people to work their way out of homelessness, provides purpose as well as a stable home for as long as someone needs it. In the past 25 years Sussex Emmaus has helped over 1,500 people transform their lives.

Over the year we will be reflecting on what we’ve achieved, celebrating the difference we have made to people’s lives and look ahead to our next 25 years. We will be sharing the stories of people who have been supported by Emmaus and those who have supported us. Although we can’t get together, the most important thing is to celebrate with everyone that has helped make us what we are today through their hard work and commitment - Companions, volunteers, trustees, staff and the generosity of our supporters.

Help us provide a passport:When a person experiences homelessness, they can lose their identity. Without a permanent address, it is incredibly difficult to apply for documents like passports and driving licences, and if someone has experienced homelessness for many years they may not have any up to date documentation at all. With a donation of £76, we could help a companion apply for a new passport, which not only enables them to travel but also helps significantly with applying for jobs, government support and housing applications.
Help us renovate a companion’s bedroom:Within the community, the bedrooms are our companion’s private spaces, so it’s really important that we make them as cosy and welcoming as possible. Often, when people experience homelessness this basic level of privacy is taken away from them, especially those who experience life sleeping on the street.
