About the appeal

Can you help us keep the heating and lights on at Beach Creative this Winter?

By helping us to better insulate, upgrade to more efficient heating and lighting and move towards renewable energy.
Beach Creative is a place where social connectivity and a sense of a creative community flourishes, where visitors, volunteers and friends of all ages can discover, learn, and develop skills and share inspiration.

We do this by delivering a programme of community workshops and education and by offering affordable studio, meeting room and space hire for a whole range of activities. We also support local events and festivals to continue to make Herne Bay a very special and welcoming destination for our ever-growing number of seasonal visitors.

We are reaching out to you as individuals, or as representatives of local businesses, in the hope that you may be able to help us to ‘keep the lights on at Beach Creative’, by making a donation of any size. It’s a real positive that donations from individuals may also be eligible for gift aid which means we will receive an extra 20% on top of your donation (please do fill in the relevant information within our local giving portal if applicable).

Higher energy prices are having a massive impact on us all and here at Beach Creative, sadly we have seen our bills skyrocket by a further £7,000+ per year, so far. Energy now represents our second biggest cost after staff, and this is threating our long-term survival as a community organisation. So, if you can help by making a contribution, please do.

We are constantly and pro-actively seeking grants and other funding for the work that needs to be carried out in order for Beach Creative to survive so, any donation you can contribute will be very much appreciated. The following is a list of just some of the work requiring urgent funding at Beach House:

· Electrical upgrade to enable us to keep the building warm via the installation of more environmentally efficient heating systems
· Upgraded our lighting system to more energy efficient fittings and bulbs – likely to save us around about 40% of our lighting bill being around £1,000 per year
· Insulating the loft and under the ground floor to keep the building warm and reduce the energy we use on heating by around 20%, delivering a saving of around £2,000 per year
· In the longer term installing an array of solar panels, we estimate that these panels will generate enough electricity to power our building for around three months of the year, saving approximately £3,000 per annum

Our dedicated Board of Volunteer Directors, our staff and members of the local community have pulled out all the stops to enable Beach Creative to continue to deliver the wide range of services we provide to the local community.

To finish on a positive note here are some of our funding success stories from this year to date:

· Secured funding from the Architectural Heritage Fund to get ourselves in a position where we could approach the Council to buy the building, assess the likely repair bills, develop a long-term strategy for ownership of the building (including a detailed plan for repair and upgrade)
· Secured a loan from a generous benefactor enabling the Directors to purchase Beach House from Canterbury City Council
· Secured grant funding from a number of sources including Kent Community Foundation, Kent County Council, Colyer Fergusson, and The National Lottery to enable us to develop plans for the future including converting to a Charity, secure specialist advice on matters including architecture, fundraising expertise and business strategy, securing more staff resource, improving our operations / governance, revamping our website, upgrading our IT (including a new finance system)
