Aquaterra offer's health & well being sessions for people with long term illnesses. We create pathway's for people to make them healthier, happy and fitter to help them find their confidence and esteem to return to a social and active environment. We are focused on helping everyone enjoy the benefits of wellbeing and a healthy lifestyle. We love leisure and want to inspire, motivate and enrich the lives of the local community based in and around the Keynsham area.
Why the community needs usWe believe active communities are happier communities. As specialists in leisure, sport,health and wellbeing we work closely with the community to create innovative and flexible wellbeing programmes to ensure a healthy lifestyle is available to all. Aquaterra works to find hard to reach groups in the community and works to break down the barriers to participation .We run a Step Out Move On project which links people up to a non-medical social and physical activities.
Our impact on the communityWe currently see approximately 40 people living with cancer or MS a week on our SOMO project. We want to include a Community Shed within the project as 'Participation in meaningful activity is one of the five determinants of health and well-being in later life' and has three components 'staying active, having a sense of purpose and avoiding social isolation'. We have done our research and currently have over 150 people interested in using the Somerdale Shed ona weekly basis..
Volunteers need to want to make a difference and ome with a positive can do attitude. The rest we can show/teach/develop/coach and reward
