Citizens Advice Conwy aims to deliver equitable face to face & telephone services across the Conwy County Borough. Working with partners, we provide telephone advice, home visit services, appointments & face to face open door services in venues our service users consider as community hubs across the County, be it libraries, community libraries, pubs, community halls. We strive to further develop volunteer led quality services within local community hubs to meet community service user led need.
Why the community needs usThe Citizens Advice service began 4 September 1939 as an emergency service the day after World War 2 was declared. Citizens Advice Conwy first opened its doors in Colwyn Bay 21 November 1939 as an advice & information service to clients in offices lent by the Colwyn Bay Cooperative Society in Sea View Road, Colwyn Bay. The aim in 1939 was to be 'at service of any citizen in difficulty' & despite facing new challenging circumstance, Citizens Advice stays true to that founding principle today.
Our impact on the communityCitizens Advice Conwy dealt with 15,714 new enquiries during 2016/2017, supporting service users to claim confirmed financial gains of £2,515,388 which includes £1,423,527 of new or increased benefit/tax credits. We also supported service users to manage £2,978,930 of debt which included benefit overpayments to the value of £155,607, mortgage arrears of £579,726 & council tax arrears of £80,166.
