We aim to raise funds towards the refurbishment of the West Glamorgan Guide Centre at Parkmill.
We wish to continue to empower young people to experience memorable adventures, to enable them to achieve their potential and develop key skills for life. Over the last 30 years we have provided a safe, welcoming space at our Guide Centre in Parkmill for young people to try new things, spend time with their peers and discover their talents. We want to continue to provide facilities that allow young people to make friends and have fun no matter who they are or whatever their background.
Why the community needs usThe Centre provides accommodation for young people who come to Gower for education and recreation. The groups who stay at the Centre also bring in revenue to the local community. For over 30 years the Centre has welcomed units from all sections of Girlguiding as well as from schools, youth and voluntary groups. The existing dormitory block has a limited life, without it every year hundreds of young people would be denied the opportunity to enjoy a variety of activities.
Our impact on the communityOriginally built as a canteen in the 1940's when the Centre was a school and used as dormitory accommodation for the last 30 years this building now needs updating. A new construction will have better insulation, modern showers toilets and storage. Improved sleeping facilities will offer the choice of one large room with bunk beds or smaller rooms for the girls. This will allow the same number of people to stay in more comfortable surroundings creating a modern space for a modern organisation.
Girlguiding West Glamorgan has lots of opportunities around the county for volunteers - as leaders, fundraisers, helpers and supporters. Volunteering for Girlguiding is easy, fun and offers opportunities to get externally-recognised qualifications.
