HDANI supports people affected by Huntington's Disease by providing advice, support and information.
HD is a terminal brain disease with symptoms usually starting at mid adulthood causing a progressive loss of control over thoughts, feelings, behaviour, movement and communication until the person requires 24 hour care.There are over 150 families affected by HD in Northern Ireland. Huntington's Disease Association Northern Ireland's vision is for Huntington's Disease families to remain active, involved, connected, valued and supported and leading as independent and normal a life as possible.
Why the community needs usWe educate and advise professionals whilst providing those directly affected by HD with information, support and opportunities to connect.
Our impact on the communityEvery child born of a parent with HD has a 50% chance of inheriting the disease and in some families several people will have symptoms at the same time causing an incredible stress on carers and loved ones.
