Swansea People First is a self-advocacy charity for adults with learning working on a variety of projects with the aim of increasing independence, sharing skills, making sure people with learning disabilities have their voices heard and have accessible information.
Why the community needs usThe charity is user led, with many of our members on the management committee, meaning that everything we do is approved by those that it will affect. We run a range of different projects including counselling groups, Community Champion projects, training sessions, peer admin groups and more.
Our impact on the communityThere are 1,100 adults with learning disabilities in Swansea that we want to help! Our services allow people to gain independence and skills in a way suited to their needs, as well as to raise awareness of learning disabilities in the local area and to spread the use of accessible information - such as Easy Read - in a number of local organisations. Together we can create a more integrated, accepting society where everyone is seen for their true value.
