The aim of the Mevagissey Bay Association is to support services that benefit the community of Mevagissey. The Mevagissey Community Support Group was set up in March 2020 as a direct response to the Covid-19 crisis. Volunteers were immediately organised and provided crisis support to those vulnerable residents who found themselves shielding at home. Food and prescriptions deliveries were quickly organised and we later ran a very substantial meals service.
Since its inception the volunteer group has evolved into offering a much wider range of services. We work with Mevagissey Surgery, Adult Social Care, Care Providers and other professional agencies to provide a network of resources for residents. We still deliver supplies to those who are housebound and our range of services has grown to include:
- Community Larder Foodbank
- Sourcing supply of disability aids.
- Finding household items for those in need of them.
- Supporting residents to come home from hospital.
- Food and prescription deliveries.
- Short term support to those who are temporarily housebound.
- Hardship payments.
- A range of other support includes fixing mobile phones, retuning smart TVs, ferrying cakes and birthday presents between households and anything else people have come up with!
Our impact within the community:
Recipients of our services are telling us that they feel reassured and giving them the confidence to stay at home, knowing we are on call at the end of the phone seven days a week is very comforting to them. Our network of support means that we can be flexible and offer tailored assistance to those who require short or longer term help.
Supporting community groups:The Mevagissey Bay Association has run successful campaigns to help local community groups get started again after the cessation of activities last year. We have raised over £3,000 for Mevagissey Christmas Lights and funds raised for Little Nippers, the Mevagissey Activity Centre, Mevagissey Museum and Mevagissey Feast Week have helped them to source vital equipment.
We continue to work with residents, community groups and support organisations to provide a network of support and care for the community within the Parish of Mevagissey. Your support for our services is much appreciated.
