About the appeal

This Winter we are appealing for funds to open the door to safety and support for women and children who need to escape someone who is abusing them. You can help us to protect women and children from domestic violence and abuse this winter by helping them escape when they need to leave. Your donations will provide temporary refuge accommodation and associated support in a crisis where a family need to escape abuse now. We accommodate 9 women and up to 23 children at a time and families are brought to safety within hours of calling us and our team of specialist domestic abuse workers will provide emotional and practical support to the whole family.

Families fleeing abuse are often at a point of severe financial disadvantage having been financially abused they may not have had access to money are experiencing homelessness, leaving everything they have known (belongings, employment or education placements, support networks) behind due to having to flee to a place of safety away from the abuser.

Our children's support worker will ensure children have fun activities, pyjamas and toys to help them through the first few days and weeks of arriving and we will make sure that the room they will share with mum is safe and comfortable with all the essential items and more. Our support provides space for recovery and healing and continues for many months and sometimes even years until the family have resettled in their forever home.

We also provide safe spaces to women in the community through our survivor recovery programmes. During these support programmes women are given the knowledge and resources to help them reflect and understand their experiences, build resilience and work towards recovery following being subjected domestic abuse. We support families regardless of background or cultural or economic status and work with women facing multiple disadvantage including complex needs, working to make them physically safe and providing the security and support to begin recovery and enable them to begin to rebuild their life free from fear.

The aim of this appeal is to help meet the increased financial complexities and needs that we are seeing as a result of the cost of living crisis and to increase provision of support at a critical time. We will ensure that families will receive the resources and information needed in the moment that they need to promote financial stability moving forward.

With your support we will continue helping women and children live free from fear and to rebuild their lives after being subject to domestic abuse. We will provide support to even more families and help them to resettle safely and permanently within the community.
