Nailsea Disability Initiative - providing disability information and advice for our community
We provide a disability information and advice service and raise awareness of issues relating to disability equality in the local area.
Our advisors can help with benefits and support services, accessible holidays, respite care and nursing homes and local services which are accessible or offer home visits.
Why the community needs usOur work involves not only assisting members of the public who call at our drop in centre, but also keeping up with current issues of importance to disabled and elderly people.
We hold community fund raising events and are always searching for new sources of revenue to allow us to continue and expand our work.
Our impact on the communityAround 1000 people per year visited our drop-in centre in 2008 since opening our centrally located and fully accessible centre. In addition we visited around 50 people in their own homes during 2008, and answered numerous telephone enquiries. The number who will benefit from our access audits e.g. automatic opening doors to Boots in Nailsea, is unquantifiable.
Nailsea Disability Initiative provides advice, information and support to people with disabilities and we need volunteers to work in our drop-in centre in various roles.
Training will be provided as necessary and you would have the satisfaction of helping to obtain welfare benefits for disabled people as well as meeting other volunteers.
Opportunities takes place at our office and drop-in centre which is located within the shopping precinct in the centre of Nailsea.
