Supporting people who have been diagnosed with cancer of the head & neck, their families and carers
About Face has 3 key purposes: A to offer one to one and group support to people at the About Face Centre in Poole and across Dorset, Hampshire and surrounding counties, on line and over the telephone, and in some cases by home visit B to further train health professionals in the head & neck cancer disciplines and C to raise awareness around cancers affecting the mouth and throat, and the skin around the head and neck. We support you how and where you need it. Call us on 01202 677340
Why the community needs usAbout Face provides that very personal support if you have been diagnosed with cancer of the head & neck whether it was yesterday or years ago. We also support your family and close friends. We are there for you 24/7 but you may like our 'drop-in' on a Tuesday or Thursday from 10-4 at the About Face Centre. Our volunteer team have 'been there before' on their own cancer journey and will understand. Call us on 01202 677340 or 'drop-in'.
Our impact on the communityAbout Face is an independent support charity. Our trustee board is mostly made up of consultant surgeons and former and current patients. Our 'one to one' volunteers too have been on their own cancer journey so everyone here understands. We often help 3 or 4 new patients every week who enjoy support in exactly the way they need it. We do not offer medical advice - this is the role of health professionals. However, our knowledgable support has made a significant difference to people's lives.
At About Face we always welcome volunteers. Most of our current volunteers have a connection with head & neck cancer in some way, although not all have had a diagnosis of cancer or are the sole carer of someone who has. Some volunteers enjoy supporting people, others like raising funds or find a different but equally important role.
