Alexander Devine Children's Hospice Service - building Berkshire's first children's hospice
To ensure that all families in Berkshire and the bordering areas of surrounding counties have easy access should they ever need it, to a sustainable, family-centred children's hospice service which can adapt to their changing needs. To fund and run a children's hospice service in Berkshire and the bordering areas of surrounding counties to support children with life-limiting conditions and their families, comprising a children's hospice supported by a community outreach team.
Why the community needs usAlexander Devine Children's Hospice Service is working to build Berkshire's children's hospice. Research has shown that there are over 330 children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions throughout Berkshire who could benefit from this service now. Our charity has funded two community paediatric palliative care nurses. They are providing dedicated care and support for local sick children and their families in their own homes.
Our impact on the community"The family are so thankful that for the last few months of his life he and his parents had the support of Alexander's Nurse, who made it possible for Matthew to enjoy his time at home right up until the end.""There are no words to describe the support of Alexander's Nurse. A regular Community Nurse would just come in to our home for a few moments to do medical procedures but Alexander's Nurse had the time to get to know Declan and gain his trust. She was a constant in the chaos."
