Amber Chaplains

Amber is a chaplaincy service for women involved in the sex industry in Southampton

Amber Chaplains meet women where they are; on the streets, selling sexual services online, working in massage parlours and in lap dancing clubs.

Our outreach team meet women on the streets of Southampton twice weekly offering a listening ear, emotional and practical support, and prayer. We also give out essential health gift bags containing condoms, a personal attack alarm, antibacterial hand gel, toiletries, snacks and an encouragement. We offer to meet for a coffee and chat and we signpost to appropriate services such as the Sexual Health Clinic, Drug Service and the Homeless Healthcare Team. These women are some of the most vulnerable in our city and our presence on the streets helps them feel safe and valued.

Our service to women selling sex on-line on adult websites involves offering anonymous support and also the offer of a well-being gift box by post.

We visit massage parlours on a monthly basis offering Thai and Chinese women support and prayer along with a goodie bag. We have a volunteer Thai translator to help conversation with any language and cultural barriers that exist.

Our chaplaincy to the lap dancing clubs in our city has expanded and we are now visiting 3 clubs. We have received a warm welcome from both management and the dancers.

We believe that every woman matters and is loved by God and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and not stigmatised by negative labels. Our team of chaplains show care and love through their conversations and offers of support.
