Our vision is a non-violent society where people are able to find ways to manage anger and conflict without resorting to violence. We put this vision into practice by running community and prison-based workshops for anyone who has experience of conflict or violence, whether as a victim, perpetrator or bystander.
Why the community needs usThe Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) is for everyone who wants to handle conflict better. Whether you have experienced conflict in the family, on the streets, in your workplace or somewhere else, an AVP workshop can help you deal with it positively. Those who come to our workshops tell us they enjoy them and learn a lot about themselves. We also work with other organisations to bring our workshops to those who might not otherwise have access to them.
Our impact on the community"My depression was crippling me, my self-worth was at rock bottom and I knew I would end up in prison - for a long time. I did the course, it was hard work but I made some great friends and everybody helped each other out. You have to look really hard at yourself and your attitudes to be able to change, but it's worth it!" AVP workshop participant
We are always looking for new Volunteer Facilitators to help run our workshops. Full training provided, with minimum commitment to attend at 3 workshops plus a Training for Facilitators session in the first year of volunteering.
