Our purpose is to provide a confidential listening service to people in mental distress, and especially to reduce suicides in the UK & Ireland
Why the community needs usOur vision is that fewer people die by suicide. We do this by providing an outlet for those suffering emotional distress and working to reduce the incidence of suicidal feelings and behaviour. We help staff the national Samaritans 24/7 free telephone helpline (116 123), as well as working with railway station staff, in local prisons, and in schools and colleges.
Our impact on the communityLast year the Bath & District branch responded to almost 40,000 telephone, email, text/SMS and face-to-face contacts. We are only able to provide this service - nationally and locally - through the ongoing support of our entirely voluntary local team, and the generosity of the many organisations & indivduals who fund our work.
As well as our Listening Samaritans, we also rely on help from Support Samaritans, who provide administrative, financial, marketing and fund-raising support.
