Battling On supports members of the British Armed Forces struggling to adjust to civilian life.
Entering civilian life after being in the armed forces can be a traumatic experience moving from a highly regulated environment to the freedom of civilian life. For many this transition is a difficult and painful experience with many reporting feelings of frustration, isolation and anger. Battling On offers wrap around resettlement support from helping deal with emotional and behavioural issues resulting from serving in combat zones to training and employability skills.
Why the community needs usOne of Battling On's flagship community project is the the Young People Peer Mentoring programme a project designed to utilise the skills of ex-service personnel to engage disadvantaged, disaffected young people in a variety of eco/adventure activities and designed to promote team building and self confidence whilst developing emotional language and conflict resolution skills. This project aims to provide young people with positive role models and to break negative patterns of behaviour.
Our impact on the communityMany ex-service personnel find on leaving the services that their military qualifications are not recognised in the civilian world. Battling On helps them convert their qualifications into ones recognised by employers. In addition Battling On provides real life work experience using the newly acquired qualifications so that ex-service personnel can demonstrate they can be transferred into the civilian workforce. All work experience is gained undertaking community based projects.
