Breathe Easy Westminster is for anyone in Westminster affected by a lung disease, their carers and friends. This disease is often progressive and incurable and can lead to isolation and reduced mobility. We provide mutual support, education, singing and exercise. We also have fun and positively help people to manage their condition. Our monthly meetings have raffles, talks, laughter yoga, education and cake/card sales. Also popular outings. We come in all shapes and sizes.
Why the community needs usThe meetings and communication by newsletter, phone and emails, maintain involvement and a feeling of belonging. Vital information such as how to use medication, advances in treatment and other issues are tackled regularly, signposting to other community services, such as benefit information and local support groups is given out. Members are sent birthday cards, invited to become involved with respiratory trials and offered alternative therapies.
Our impact on the communityWe now have over 140 members of which at least 25 attend the meetings monthly. They are really appreciative of what we do because often they have been alone for a substantial period. Lack of oxygen in the condition often leads to depression and support and understanding of what they can do to improve their lot is vital, so that they learn to live with their condition not suffer from it. Evidenced in feedback. With your support we can continue to help our members have an improved quality of life
We are always looking for volunteers to give support in our meetings and Outreach events, Can you make a movie about us? or edit a newsletter? Contact Tess at Breatheasywestminster@talktalk.net for a chat
