To provide assistance and rescue of persons who find themselves in dangerous situations, many of which are life threatening. We are a voluntary/unpaid search and rescue service on call 24hrs a day every day of the year. We work on behalf of the police to search and or rescue people who maybe lost, injured or unwell in mountainous areas. We also put our specialised skills in practise for searching in rivers/waterways and for searches for despondent persons and persons living with dementia.
Why the community needs usIn addition to our search and rescue operations we also attend local schools to deliver talks to children on mountain safety etc. and we assist another local charity (Hospice) by providing safety cover and advice with their key fundraising initiative an annual 'Moon' walk
Our impact on the communityWe have been providing a search and rescue service since 1968 and during this time have seen a substantial rise in the number of call outs we respond to. It is now normal to respond around 140 times every year for search and rescue purposes. Our professional approach and dedication has played a crucial role in developing and delivering a much improved and efficient service which we provide free of charge. It cost around £55,000 a year to run the team raised mainly through public donations
