Brighter Living

We offer Armchair Yoga and Ki Gong to the elderly in Surrey and the surrounding areas.

As the population of Kingston ages, the health and wellbeing of older people and the provision of services to meet their needs becomes increasingly important. According to the RBK Older People latest published JSNA report, the number of people aged 65 and over is projected to increase by 14.75% between 2014 and 2024. The greatest percentage increase will be for Kingston residents aged 75 to 84.This increase is likely to lead to a rise in long term conditions with co-morbidities, and in turn will place a higher demand on health services. The report also states that tackling these individual demands will be a key challenge for local health and social care services in the future.Shift towards preventative services and early intervention is one of 7 key themes that run through various local policies and strategy documents for older people. Brighter Living's purpose is to help with gentle movement and exercise in the form of Armchair Yoga and Ki Gong as recommended by the NICE report.

Why the community needs us

We aim to help the elderly community by bringing people together in these group exercise sessions in the community centres around the Surrey area. We have had great success with this so far at MILAAP, Staywell,, The Longmead Centre and the Kingston Chinese Association. We have also run a taster session at the Fircroft trust.

Our impact on the community

Approximately 75 older people in Kingston have achieved a better body flexibility and agility. 75 older people in Kingston have achieved a more positive mindset. 75 older people in Kingston feel less isolated and have formed more friendships.
