Improving Homes, Changing Lives - Building a Better Future for Older People In Wales
When your older loved ones are struggling to live independently in their own homes, our trusted, expert, caring staff are on hand to make their homes warm, safe and fit to live in.
Why the community needs usWith life expectancy at 80, older people make up an increasing percentage (18% are over 65) of the Welsh population. The majority (77%) own their own home. An estimated 140,000 live in fuel poverty, leading to an excess in winter deaths of 3,400 during the cold winter of 2017/18. Practical help with home repairs and improvements reduces the risk of falls, illness and deaths caused by unsuitable housing. Every year Care & Repair helps over 40,000 older people to make their home warm and safe.
Our impact on the communityThe average age of the people we help is 77. An increasing number of our clients are vulnerable due to health, low income and isolation. During 2017/18 we made 11,980 homes safe and warm, completed work totalling over £13 million and helped 10,182 clients to increase their income, totalling £5,928,295. Care & Repair helps older people to live happy, healthy and long lives. Every £1 spent saves £11.50 in the cost of residential and hospital care with immeasurable community & family benefits.
