Carers Milton Keynes provides support and advice to Carers; people who look after a family member or friend with an illness, disability, mental health problem or substance misuse issues. We also support Young Carers; children aged 8-19 who have caring responsibilities for a family member. Our dedicated service helps to give young carers the same life chances as any other child through support (in and outside of school), group work, clubs, activities and residential breaks.
Why the community needs usIt is estimated that 1 in 8 people will become a carer in their lifetime. Becoming a carer can often be an isolating and stressful experience and many people do not recognise themselves as carers but as a family member or friend. We at Carers Milton Keynes aim to help people in their caring role by providing up to date information, training, counselling and relaxation therapies; along with hosting social events and regular support groups around the Milton Keynes area.
Our impact on the communityCarers who have benefited from our service feel supported and empowered. They receive well rounded, informed advice, never judged. They have the opportunity to meet other carers in similar situations and form friendships as well as getting some well-earned time to themselves, away from their caring responsibilities. Young carers are able to regain some of their childhood through the services we provide. They become more confident, build positive friendships, feel less isolated and have fun!
At Carers Milton Keynes we are currently putting together a volunteer fundraising team that would be prepared to help plan, organise and run events to raise money for Young and Adult Carers.
We are looking for enthusiastic, team players who would be willing to get stuck into the task.
