Young Carers Respite

A project by Carers Trust South East Wales

We will be working with our Young Carers to raise funds that will provide them with the opportunity to go on a once in a lifetime trip abroad! We will be fundraising at a number of events including a Pen-y-Fan climb and at the upcoming Usk Show 2019.

Why they need our service

A young carers is someone with a caring responsibility - this could be a family member or friend who is ill, disabled or misuses drugs or alcohol. Young carers often miss out on the things most people their age take for granted - from socialising with friends to attending school every day. As a result, young carers are often stressed and low in confidence. For many young carers, the opportunities to simply be normal young people are few and far between.

Plan and expected results

This brilliant group of dedicated young carers will have the opportunity to enjoy a cultural experience abroad, socialise as a group and most importantly take a well earned break from their caring role!

Pays for half an hour of support at one of our carers hubs

Enables a carer to take a much needed break from caring for an hour

Pays for a carer at crisis point to have one-to-one mental health counselling

Volunteers needed

We are looking for volunteers to support us in our community carers hubs located in both Pontypool and Penarth. Volunteers are required to meet and greet drop-ins, manage bookings and undertake a few administration tasks.
