In Tune Singing group (for those with memory issues or dementia)
The group is run fortnightly by volunteers and our Care Support Workers. It is a 2 hour session whereby those affected by memory issues can come along, with or without their carers, and enjoy singing and socialising. Tea and coffee is also provided.
The project is supported by Buckinghamshire County Council's Prevention Matters team, and start-up funding was provided by Heart of Bucks.
Why they need our service In Tune was set up as there was a waiting list for alternative singing groups for those with dementia. With groups like this being closed all the time, In Tune was needed to give those with memory issues, and their carers, a chance to meet and support each other. It provides a musical activity for those who are suffering from mild dementia and gives their carers a break should they wish to take it.
Plan and expected results At present we have between 15 and 20 people in total attending each week, thereby decreasing their social isolation and giving them an opportunity to be with others in a similar situation.
We are also looking into doing taster sessions in other areas to see whether there is demand to expand our services and help a wider group of people throughout Buckinghamshire (and possibly eventually in Milton Keynes and London).
