A once in a lifetime opportunity to create a new jewel for Anglesey's crown in Cemaes Bay
Our appeal is to raise funds to save Capel Bethlehem Cemaes from potential property development and regenerate the site to create a restaurant, holiday let, two retails outlets and a visitor attraction/community hub and cinema on Cemaes' stunning seafront. The Visitor attraction will house the historic 111 year old Charles Henry Ashley lifeboat (when it is not at sea) and an interactive heritage exhibition for visitors of all ages that will be open all year round whatever the weather! The funding package to purchase the chapel is in place and we are getting close to securing all the funding needed to commence the first phase of the project to convert the chapel buildings into a 100 cover restaurant on two floors with a seafront facing raised deck and self catering holiday let. The restaurant will be commercially leased on an initial ten year tenure and Cemaes CIC will manage the holiday let.
Why the community needs usThe Capel Bethlehem project will provide business space for three new enterprises and a vibrant venue to host recreational activities, events, exhibitions, well-being classes, educational activities linked to the national curriculum. The Chapel, built in 1856, will be bought back into sustainable commercial use. A new tourist destination will be created in Wales' most northerly village to support the local economy and the historic Charles Henry Ashley lifeboat will have a permanent home.
Our impact on the communityWe will create a skills base for employment and training opportunities by providing 28 new jobs for local people in a Ward ranked the 45% most deprived in Wales and a structured training programme that supports economically inactive people to develop new skills in an informal environment. Visitors will be able to strongly connect with Cemaes' rich heritage story and sense of place. We will create a thriving, multi-purpose community hub that provides inclusive activities for all.
Volunteers needed to join the Cemaes Community Interest Company management committee to help taking our exciting Capel Bethlehem Cemaes project forward. No experience needed just lots of enthusiasm to support our lovely village.
