CHAT provides services to prevent homelessness and assist those without accommodation
CHAT assists people in housing need to gain access to decent, secure and affordable accommodation and to sustain the capacity to live independently. CHAT promotes positive change through continuing support, believing that everybody is entitled somewhere to call home and to live their life free from fear, violence and abuse. CHAT's aims are achieved through housing advice, tenancy support, deposit guarantees and debt and money adviceWhy the community needs us
CHAT's services are a vital resource to the local community. Our deposit guarantees enable people to access accommodation, and we give free, impartial and confidential advice and support. We also run Tiverton's food bank and a winter fuel-poverty scheme. All these services help to make the communities of Mid Devon better places for everyone. Our impact on the community
Because of the confidential nature of much of CHAT's work it is difficult to give specific outcomes. However, we can state that during the past year we supported 800 clients, completely free of charge, and gave out food parcels to feed over 1,000 people.
We need volunteers for our reception desk. This involves making up food bank parcels and general duties. You will not give advice, but listen to clients' enquiries and signpost them to an advisor.
