#32STEPS to Togetherness - Helping Out, Volunteering, Local & International Social Action
We're now active promoting
#32STEPS to Togetherness - designed to encourage individual and collective actions to bring people and communities together. Steps 9 to 12 are focused on the theme
HELP OUT:
- Volunteer for a cause that you care about (step 9)
- Get involved with youth initiatives (step 10)
- Socialise with older people (step 11)
- Help out at a food bank or food poverty project (step 12)
Recently, one of our director's volunteered to help care for highly threatened Sun Bears! Others in the team have been active volunteering in east London, and we work in some of the most deprived communities (such as Middlesbrough, Rochdale, Redcar & Peterborough) supporting them in developing their abilities to help others - tackling food poverty and reducing loneliness.
We are now trying to raise £2,500 to support the personal development and coaching needs of 15 social action action leaders - giving them the skills, confidence and motivation to set up new projects to help more people in their communities. As part of our social mission we have donated funds ourselves to buy and plant 50 trees in Borneo, this is a brave initiative run by charity
APE Malaysia to reforest areas denuded of trees and bring back wildlife - including Sun Bears! You can also volunteer with them yourselves (see their website and ask Mark about his experience: mark@civilsocietyconsulting.co.uk). It's a great experience.
We are now trying to raise a further £2,500 to buy another 500 trees (saplings, planting and their care for the first four years). We formed our community interest company over a decade ago (in 2011) to bring our evaluation, fundraising, strategic thinking and design talents and expertise together; and to make a positive difference to the civil society and public square. Since we are now living in the most challenging 'cost of living' times for civil society organisations and the health/wellbeing of democratic society is a great risk, we want to help social action leaders grow, develop and do more in their communities. As global citizens we are keen to support people and communities to realise their international and ecological responsibilities and aspirations.
We have a range of volunteer and intern opportunities all designed to help your grow your skills and help bring people and communities together.
