Dance Hastings organises inclusive social dance classes and events in the community.
We offer inclusive dance classes and events so that they are accessible to all including families, the elderly and those with disabilities. Participants are encouraged to interact with each other, and with volunteers, in a variety of partner and social dance styles. The activities may involve learnt sequences and routines or improvisation, with the purpose of enjoyment, interaction and connection.
Why the community needs usThe key disadvantages we seek to address through these free community workshops and events are mental health issues and social isolation, along with physical inactivity for people of all ages, including the elderly. Research has shown that dance can dramatically improve an individual's sense of wellbeing and in some cases reverse the effects of debilitating diseases such as Parkinson's or fibromyalgia, or mental health issues such as depression.
Our impact on the communityDuring the first 6 months of our charity we have organised 8 free inclusive Sunday salsa classes on Hastings Pier and provided volunteer dance buddies for Strictly Stade Saturday [free and inclusive]. We have also begun to run monthly dance evenings for residents of Southlands Care home, and would like to increase our capacity to be able to bring dance to more residential homes. We also aim to develop dance opportunities for wheelchair users in 2019
