We help people with disabilities to maximise income and achieve independant living

Disability Huntingdonshire (DISH) provides an information, advice and advocacy service to local individuals with disabilities, or to their parents and carers. We work with clients face to face, undertake home visits for the housebound, and provide a telephone helpline. We help to obtain the resources that can transform their lives and enable them to live independently, overcoming obstacles that provide stress, anxiety and poor health.

Why the community needs us
We help disabled people to help themselves. When they have proper financial and other resources, they have a wider range of choices. They and their families can access services which allow them participate more fully in society. This can be through education, employment, or leisure activities. They are able to afford better nutrition and mental health improves. They are less likely to need crisis loans and services. The local economy is also boosted by their improved spending power.

Our impact on the community
We provide value for money: over the last financial year (April 2015 to March 2016), the charity overall, with a part time staff of three, and two volunteers, dealt with 2286 contacts with 400 clients. These were by telephone, office based interview, and home visits. In financial terms, on an annual expenditure of around £50,000.00, we obtained around £313,526 (annual equivalent) in welfare benefits for our clients. We have constantly increasing demands for our services.
