When life gets tough, we all need someone who is on our side.
Dorset Advocacy helps vulnerable people to take control over their own lives. We help people to challenge discrimination and to get the rights and services they are entitled to. Our advocates take time to get to know the people they help, and help them to speak up. We work with people with learning disabilities, dementia, cancer, vulnerable people in custody, and many other groups.Dorset Advocacy now helps around 3500 people every year.
Why the community needs usWe very much welcome new volunteers - our skilled and dedicated volunteering team is an essential part of our organisation. Many people who have volunteered with Dorset Advocacy have gone on to excellent career opportunities. We work in partnership with other organisations to innovate, with the aim of making life in Dorset better for people with disabilities or long-term illness.
Our impact on the community"You're the first person that makes me feel that I am not mad. I remember you as you're the one who actually listened to me." "Thank you for all your hard work, patience, understanding and empathy. Your particular dedication and support was very much appreciated, you are a credit to your job." "My advocate helped me to understand things. I could not have managed without her."
Dorset Advocacy recruits, trains and supports volunteers to help people to speak up about the help they need. Contact us to find out more!
