We offer support for people who have Down's syndrome, their families, carers and practitioners.

We are a parent-led charity, we exist to empower children and young people with Down’s syndrome to reach their potential and lead fulfilling lives. We do this both directly by facilitating their access to social and educational opportunities and indirectly by helping their family members and carers to provide more effective support.

We also support a local development officer to deliver WorkFit locally - supporting people who have Down's syndrome into work.

Why the community needs us
We support families, carers and anyone else who has an interest in Down's syndrome. We distribute newsletters to over 300 people, including families and practitioners, provide information, organise social events and training. Our fortnightly preschool and monthly Chatterbox events provide our members with the opportunity to access support and make connections and friendships. Our over 17s meet regularly in partnership with Workfit to enable our members to expand their social skills, develop a social network and work together towards a more independent future.

Our impact on the community
Annually we train over 200 delegates, topics include numeracy, communication, accessing the curriculum, literacy, supporting positive behaviour, SRE and toilet training.
Our preschool group provides new parents/carers and their children a safe, relaxed and inclusive environment to meet.
Chatterbox is a family social club with arts and crafts, yoga, Zumba, sing and sign and speech therapy. The over 17s meet for a variety of social events including bowling, dancing and quiz nights.
Our newsletters inform parents and practitioners of our events and other activities.
We provide a social network for parents/carers to give and receive mutual support and to develop supportive friendships via Facebook and WhatsApp groups.

Volunteers needed

We are always looking for volunteers to help with fundraising and to help out at events. Whether you hold a cake sale, wear odd socks for the day, climb a mountain or run a marathon, your support is always welcome.
