We are the skiers and boarders' charity who believe that people with disabilities should be able to ski alongside the able abodied at all ski facilities and resorts. We strive to promote equalitiy and opportunity for those with disabilities to take part in snowsports and to help improve their enjoyment and standard of performance at the level of their choice. We have seven adaptive ski schools across the UK at every indoor ski slope, including a school in the cairngorms during the winter.
Why the community needs usWe help those with disabilities to access experiences they would not otherwise be able to take part in.We work closely with local schools, care centres and support groups to help them introduce their students and users to the thrill of snowsports. We also work hard to promote equality and independence for those with disabilities through snowsports and regularly hold assemblies and presentations on disability awareness and inclusion.
Our impact on the communitySince November 2010 we have delivered over 975 lessons to over 200 skiers, teaching over 20 different kinds of disabilities ranging in age from 3 to 91 years-old. We are continuing and expanding our programme at our ski school in SNO!zone Milton Keynes, developing relationships with local schools, community groups, volunteers, & other local charities. We are also striving to source funding so that we can offer subsidies for lessons for those skiing with us in Milton Keynes.
We are constantly in need of enthusiastic volunteers to help us fundraise and take part in local events. We also have a local group that meets on the 2nd Sunday of every month that is run by volunteers. The group provides an opportunity for recreational-level disabled skiers to meet and ski together. No skiing experience necessary! Please contact us for more information:DSUKMiltonKeynes@disabilitysnowsport.org.uk
