An educational charity that seeks to promote equality and diversity through play in our community.
We are a unique and innovative educational charity that supports individuals on the journey around equalities and inclusion. We help develop knowledge and skills that enable us to challenge and combat prejudice, discrimination and injustice and celebrates diversity in the lives of young children. We achieve this through our toy library and offering support directly to young children, parents, carers and those who work with them in Brighton and Hove.
P
lease contact clair@ecpuk.org if you or families you know would like to join the toy library; we are able to offer a FREE toy borrowing service now even though the toy library and children's centre remains closed.During lock down, we have moved our information and support online and we are in touch with many of our families and lots of networks supporting children across the city.
We are currently fundraising for donations to help us purchase supplies and put together play packs which are delivered to children alongside the food bank deliveries going from the children's centre each week.
Each pack costs £5 for the resources; the time putting the packs together is donated by volunteers, and there are six packs each round. Each round starts with the basics of pens, pencils, glue sticks, paper, colouring sheet and so on and every delivery helps build up an arts and crafts selection with new play ideas added with every pack.
The children receiving these play packs are amongst the poorest in the city.
EVERY £5 IS MAKING A HUGE DIFFERENCE TO CHILDREN'S LIVES AND GIVING THEM SOME FUN!

...and thank you for your support. Why the community needs usWe are very skilled and experienced play workers, teachers and community activists. We have spent years getting to know the varied and diverse communities in Brighton and Hove and we put this specialist knowledge to good effect when working hard meeting children's needs. Our impact on the communityThe charity has been a valued resource in the city since we started, in 1988! We signpost families and those who work with them to other services they need but may not know about and we are committed to raising awareness about the importance of children's rights and how best to meet their needs. Our toy library service is used and loved by many and continues to be the focal point of all our work, even through the pandemic.
