EquATA offers a safe space for families affected by mental health issues with the help of horses.
EquATA Ltd is a not-for-profit org. that combines the use of specially selected horses and a team offering experiential learning for people with mental health issues in our private woodland environment We promote self-esteem and confidence through our horses showing us our actions and body language. We work with children and their families and school groups using a non-judgemental and no pressure approach to gain communication. We offer two programmes, one is for individual sessions for one family at a time to allow that family member to express themselves. The other programme we offer is an enrichment session for school groups or organisations that require intervention and well being. A group of a maximum of 15 can be catered for with these activities.
Why the community needs usOur Equine therapies provide a stimulating, alternative to medicine. Our work helps to bring families, siblings and parents closer together as where possible we do activities which involve them all. The horses are used for the child to 'lay on' with no tack to help enhance their sensory awareness. Our centre is located in a tranquil wooded area which enhances peace, self-confidence and relaxation for our clients. Our clients and their families leave feeling fulfilled.
Our impact on the communityAll of our many clients have gained personal and social benefits. In our 10 years running, we have helped many families and individuals. We expect to continue this as we grow. Clients who have been excluded from schools have now returned to education and two have completed 3 years at Moulton College. We have also offered many work experience and volunteering opportunities.
We require volunteers who have either experience of working with horses and/or children with autism. Please contact us if you have relevant experience and feel you could help us with our work.
