EuCAN Dorset Midweek Volunteers work on Dorset's wildlife sites and nature reserves, aiming to involve more people and communities in the conservation management of their local environment, by providing training and practical experience for young graduates, potential volunteers and therapeutic groups. Our volunteers help to improve wildlife habitats and at the same time benefit physically and psychologically from the fresh air, hard work, social contact and satisfaction of working with nature.
Why the community needs usNot only do we make a considerable contribution to the conservation of some of Dorset's best wildlife habitats, we provide opportunities to people to play an active part in this, particularly disadvantaged groups such as the teams of adults with learning disabilities and young people in recovery from mental illness, who benefit enormously from the physical exercise, social interaction and teamwork.
Our impact on the communityEvery week one group of 10-15 participants takes part in a task; many weeks two groups go out with us, while our aim is to take different groups out on at least three days each week! We now have our own minibus to help us achieve this target.
