Families Matter! Relationships that last, do not 'just happen', it takes time & skill
In an age where almost 40% of young people live in a 'broken home' we help put back the role models, successful long-term couples visit class rooms to talk about their lives together, so young people can see, hear and believe that lasting relationships can happen. Teens rarely want to talk about relationships with their own parents, so providing neutral adults to answer questions, is very well received.
Why the community needs usOur local development officers run volunteer led discussions in schools and prisons across the whole of the south of England, to date talking to over 80,000 young people - giving hope, alleviating anxiety and providing a route-map of sorts for life long happiness in an emotionally robust relationship. Our sessions are provided to schools either free of charge or for a nominal contribution to volunteer expenses. We also work with youth clubs and young offenders institutions.
Our impact on the communityYoung people are able to explore the meaning of friendship and long term relationships. Young people become more aware of sources of help and advice. Young people get a chance to observe a different kind of 'normal' to what they may experience at home. Young people adjust their expectations & aspirations. They become better able to deal with media stereotypes and become more self-aware, able to improve their own emotional intelligence and communications skills, which will benefit them long term.
We rely on 'volunteer couples' to deliver our relationships education workshops. All you need to be is a dedicated couple with your own authentic story to tell - to be open and prepared to answer a range of personal questions from young people.
