Supporting families of children/young people with any disability or special need throughout Essex
We aim to empower parents to do what is right for them and their children, to make the best use of available services, to receive appropriate support for their child and to address obstacles to achieving this. We offer an information service/helpline; one-to-one advice and support from our Family Support Advisers through home visits (inc. completion of DLA forms and other related benefit forms); Independent parental support on educational issues; support through group activities; siblings club.
Why the community needs usWe understand the distressing emotions, frustrations and challenges that families face in bringing up their special child, and aim to give caring, practical and confidential support whenever needed. We can help with education issues to ensure the child receives the right support at school, help with obtaining disability related benefits for the child, emotional support at times of distress, fun activities for all to encourage families to make lasting friendships and support each other.
Our impact on the communityEach year we support over 1,500 families who come from all parts of Essex, and the demand for our services continue to grow. For many families we are a real lifeline, summed up by one parent who said "Families InFocus made me feel I was no longer alone. They gave me hope". The outcomes and impact of our support can mean financial gain, improved physical health and emotional wellbeing, improved self-esteem and a better quality of life for the whole family.
