Sadly, there are pockets of deprivation within the communities in which First Steps works. The percentage of children living in poverty in Twerton (36%) and Southdown (29%) is the highest in Bath and North East Somerset. We know that childhood poverty has lasting effects on learning, wellbeing and life outcomes so early years learning and care are critical. Plan and expected results
First Steps BOP supports young children with disabilities through services such as music therapy ensure they develop the foundation skills and abilities needed in their early years to achieve their full potential through school and into adult life. Free, nutritionally balanced midday meals help young children from poorer families to eat well and benefit from the learning and care at the nursery. Play equipment and trips enable First Steps to provide an enriched range of learning opportunities.
