Foundations enables young people to make positive choices about health and relationships. In a world in which young people are bombarded by conflicting messages about how they should look, many of them are confused and distressed about their appearance. This results in a lack of confidence for some, while for others the consequences are much more serious, including eating disorders, self-harm and depression. Foundations helps young people address these issues and achieve their potential.
Why the community needs usWe benefit the community by answering the many heartfelt cries for help we receive from young people and parents who feel isolated or bullied. Here is one desperate plea: "Im 12 years old and i don't wanna ring anyone because it will be embarrassing... but I think I have an eating problem. I think im fat and everytime I look at myself I cry because of how upset I am, and recently ive not been eating much. Im scared, im just so upset... Please help."
Our impact on the communityFoundations has a proven track record in guiding young people to health and emotional wellbeing. Through our hands on programmes young people learn how to deal with media manipulation and peer pressure. Once young people have better body image the result is improved self-confidence and motivation to engage with their community. Home and family life are happier and meal times together are more enjoyable. Our individual mentoring gives hope to those who have suffered alone.
