A therapeutic service for sexually abused children and help and advice for their families
To ensure all children and young people who are victims of sexual abuse/exploitation have the opportunity to access help, advice, guidance and therapeutic intervention to aid their recovery. We help children and young people make sense of the confusion they feel and teach them coping strategies to deal with the difficulties they face. We highlight their strengths and potential so they move from victim to survivor. We aim to ensure every child has the right to a childhood free from sexual abuse.
Why the community needs usChildren who have suffered the trauma of being sexually abused need help to process what has happened. Research has shown that without this help they often go on to have poor school attendance, mental health problems, behavioural problems which can be anti-social, misuse drugs and/or alcohol, self-harm, make attempts at suicide etc. Being able to intervene with treatment means the child and family are emotionally healthier and the community is a safer place that is not faced with on-going bills.
Our impact on the communityFollowing treatment there is a rise in self-esteem and a decrease/cessation in self-harming, drug and alcohol abuse, suicide attempts, nightmares, flash backs, panic attacks, self-blame etc. The child is able to concentrate again and attend school successfully. Parents also benefit from the support given to them and report more confidence in being able to help their child through the difficult process of healing and adjusting.
We would like people that are able to help with general administration and/or fundraising events and activities.
