GEMS provides a wide range of social programmes for their members, their partners and friends.
The Gay Elderly Men's Society (GEMS) was established in 1997 as a small voluntary group with its own bank account and running with the support from Age Concern. GEMS delivers inclusive activities for primarily older gay men.
GEMs provides a range of services to members, their families and friends. Including support and events for the members. In 2011 GEMs received the Queen's Award - the MBE for voluntary groups.
Why the community needs usGEMS provides an essential service to approximately 100 members throughout the year.
GEMS is the only group of this type of service in Brighton and Hove and their surrounding areas.
Our impact on the communityGEMS is managed by two people. The Social Event Coordinator & Adviser and Fundraiser and Services are volunteered by members of the group who act as mentors for the swimming, walking, healthy eating and art groups.
