Providing volunteer driven transport for elderly and disabled people to access essential services.
Good Neighbours runs a community minibus and volunteer car scheme that provides transport for anyone aged over 60 or with a disability. Our car scheme drivers are all volunteers who use their own cars and receive a mileage allowance to cover their running costs. Our aim is to help overcome rural and social isolation by providing low cost transport to access essential services other people take for granted.
Why the community needs usOur impact on the community
We are on the lookout for new volunteer drivers to join our scheme, who can donate as much or as little spare time as possible to their local community in and around the areas of Whitby and district. Typical journeys are to Drs Surgeries, hospital appointments, day centres, shopping trips, hairdressers or maybe just to visit friends or relatives. As a driver, you can choose which journeys you want to undertake and you will never be asked to do journeys that you are not happy to do.
