Heals of Malmesbury provides practical help, support and advocacy to vulnerable local individuals and families in the Malmesbury area and during the Covid pandemic we have organised the provision of more than 5,000 free meals during lockdown to individuals and families in need.
We mobilise our community's resources, are the largest issuers of vouchers for our Foodbank and provide support on debt management, rent and council tax arrears and getting the right level of benefit support.
We also run activity programmes at Christmas and through the summer holidays for isolated individuals and disadvantaged families.
Why the community needs usWe have helped hundreds of individuals and families, negotiating debt forgiveness and realistic repayment programmes with utility companies, Wiltshire Council, social and private landlords. We have ensured that vulnerable residents receive the correct levels of Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payments and other benefits, while securing necessary support through close working relationship with our local Foodbank and charitable trusts that will purchase replacement household equipment
Our impact on the communityMore than 100 people attend our Christmas Community Lunch and more than 50 disadvantaged young people enjoy the benefits of our annual pantomime trip and summer activity programme which includes week-long residential holiday camps. This year with Covid our plans are a little constrained but we are working on continuing to provide a service in a safe way where we can. We have successfully helped families avoid homelessness, achieved the right levels of PIP and other benefits, and avoid crippling debts and bailiffs calls.
