Helmsley Arts Centre is a meeting place for the creatively curious, a community led, social hive with opportunities to be creative, and to experience high-quality arts and culture

Our community is the core of HAC. The 1812 Theatre Company and 1812 Youth Theatre, our volunteers, outreach projects with local schools, Technical Theatre Training, Musical Memories, Harminis musical fun, Community partnerships, HAC Choir, Ryedale Writers, Friday Cafe and more!

Our events offer the broadest range of theatre, music of all genres, comedy, spoken word, talks, exhibitions, classes, workshops, courses, cinema, live screenings from National Theatre Live, RSC & Bolshoi Ballet as well as half term and holiday activities for all ages across all art forms, from ballet, yoga and creative writing to choir, musical theatre and a huge variety of visual art exhibitions throughout the year.

Volunteers needed

Whether you are looking to meet new people, learn new skills or want to help out your local Arts Centre, there are various ways to volunteer your time with us at Helmsley Arts Centre. We proudly have approximately 100 volunteers whose generosity enables us to run and operate all our events. We are always extremely grateful to anyone who can offer us their spare time and support! We offer a volunteer role that best matches your skills and time available, Full training and support as you take up your new role, The opportunity to enhance your cv with broader work experience, The chance to widen your circle of friends by joining a friendly team and the satisfaction of making a contribution to the community. Our volunteering oppurtunities include: Artist Liaison ,Front of House, Bar Staff (training provided), Friday Cafe, Exhibitions, Gardening, Building Maintenance and more! We require a large team of friendly and dedicated people to keep The Arts Centre running smoothly and would not be able to operate without them!
