Help Counselling provides compassionate, skilled and affordable one to one counselling for adults.
We aim to support those who might not otherwise be able to access such support. We also provide a supportive atmosphere for trainee therapists in a volunteer placement. Our counsellors make Help Counselling possible and we highly value their contribution to the charity. Where we differ to the NHS and other voluntary organisations is that we can offer longer term therapy where appropriate. We are currently offering free counselling for those affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
Why the community needs usOur small charity has been at the heart if the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea (K&C) and the tri-borough (K&C, Westminster and Hammersmith & Fulham) community from our centre on Portobello Road for over 40 years. We have a satellite service one morning a week at The School of Meditation in Holland Park. Since 2011, we have increased the number of sessions offered each week from 120 to 215.
Our impact on the communityWe supported approximately 500 individuals with counselling and listening support last year. Of these clients, 43% had an annual income of less than £10,000, 8% were single parents and 3% were carers. In addition, 77% of our clients were female, and the age ranges were: 10% 18-24, 61% 25-44 and 29% 45+. 29% of our clients were from BAME communities. We have never received a complaint and when asked to rate their counselling experience out of 5, the average score is 4.79.
